The highlight of the Mi Robot VacuumCleaner scanning system (international version of RoboRock) is a powerful laser range finder (Laser Distance Sensor or LDS). This sensor is installed in a special, 360-degree rotating “tower” located on the upper side of the gadget’s body.
The LDS scanning frequency is 1800 times per second, which allows the robot systems to build a clear path and make an accurate map of the room along which the gadget moves. The range of the rangefinder is 6 meters. The error is about 2% (the accuracy of the laser sensor of the rangefinder was checked by the technological laboratory). The rotation speed of the “tower”. 5 seconds per revolution of 360 degrees.
The data obtained is processed in real time by three high-performance processors: a quad-core processor based on the ARM Alwinner chipset, the ARM Cortex coprocessor from STMicroelectronics and the Texas Instruments LDS image processor.
