Life hacker compiled a selection of excellent antiviruses for home use, for which you will not have to pay.
Buying expensive licenses for comprehensive anti-virus packages is justified for corporate users. But there is no point in wasting money on a home antivirus. Free versions of popular antivirus products are capable of protecting your PC.

Benefits: one of the best indicators of detection and neutralization of malware, protection against phishing, simple interface, modest expenditure of resources.
Disadvantages: antivirus scan settings have been reduced compared to Bitdefender’s paid solutions.
4. Comodo Internet Security
Comodo antivirus is a real harvester in which, in addition to antivirus protection, there is a firewall, an anti-rootkit, a cloud scanner, and a sandbox. It is possible to activate the "game mode", in which anti-virus notifications are disabled.
Benefits: universality, wide possibilities (free Comodo antivirus contains the same functions as paid analogues of other developers).
Disadvantages: excessive paranoid firewall, imposing products like Comodo GeekBuddy and Comodo Dragon Web Browser.
5. Avast Free Antivirus
Avast Free Antivirus is already used by 400 million users. This antivirus is equipped with a password manager and browser extensions. Avast Free Antivirus also has a “game mode” in which antivirus notifications are minimized so that the user is not distracted. Among other things, Avast Free Antivirus can create bootable disks and assess the vulnerability of Wi-Fi networks.
Benefits: great functionality for a free product, built-in sandbox, advanced cloud scanning, protection against rootkits and phishing.
Disadvantages: periodically annoying with offers to purchase a paid version.
6. Kaspersky Free
Free version of the Russian antivirus, which has always held high positions in various ratings. Although this is a stripped-down product, there is everything for comfortable home use.

9. Sophos Home
Sophos consists of two parts: a control panel, implemented as a web application, and a client that performs real-time scanning. Antivirus protects against common malware as well as encryptors. In addition, the kit includes parental control and remote control of your devices via the web interface.
Benefits: good protection against phishing, parental control and site filtering.
Disadvantages: a very strange way to manage antivirus through a web application.
10. Windows Defender
Is it worth it to install third-party solutions if you have Microsoft Security Essentials? This is the standard antivirus included with Windows 10. If you are using earlier versions of Windows, you can download Security Essentials separately.

Disadvantages: poor functionality.
As you can see, there are enough free antiviruses, and each user can choose the most suitable one from them. If you prefer proven and popular solutions, install AVG or Avast Free Antivirus.
