To prevent damage to backup files, you must follow these guidelines.

  • Finder and iTunes save backups to the backup folder. The location of the backup folder depends on the operating system. Although you can copy the backup folder, you should not move it to another folder, to an external or network drive.
  • It is forbidden to edit, transfer, rename or extract the contents of backup files, as these actions can lead to file corruption. For example, to restore data from a moved backup file, you must return it to its original location, otherwise the file will not work. Backups act as a reliable repository of all device information. Even if viewing or accessing the contents of the backup file is possible, such contents are usually not stored in a readable format.
