Resetting the settings to the factory state (aka hardware reset or Hard Reset) returns the phone software to its original state. After its implementation, all your data, including contacts, messages, photos and applications will be deleted.
Such a reset can help get rid of system glitches or help out if you forget the graphic password or PIN code of your Xiaomi. In addition, it will be mandatory if you decide to sell the smartphone and do not want the buyer to see what data was on it.
In this instruction, we will tell you how to reset Xiaomi Redmi 4x to factory settings in two ways.
1. From the menu
To perform a reset in the first way, you need to go to the “Settings” menu and in the “System and device” section open the “Advanced” tab.
Select “Restore and reset”, and then “Reset settings”.

Having opened it, click on “Personal data” or, if you want to delete files only from a memory card, “Clear SD card”.
After that, Redmi 4x will go into reboot and after a while the phone will be in the “out of the box” state, as when you first turned on after the purchase.
Once again, a hard reset will delete all data from the smartphone’s memory, so we recommend that you back up and transfer files from Xiaomi to your computer.
2. Using the buttons from the Recovery menu
This method will be the only one possible if you can’t enter the phone menu.
In order to reset to factory defaults using this method, you must turn off the smartphone, and then press and hold the power on / lock and volume up buttons until vibration occurs and the Recovery menu in English from three points appears on the screen. The volume up button must not be released until you get into Recovery.
In the menu that opens, select the item “Wipe data” (clear all data) and confirm the selection. After that, a factory reset will start and after a while Redmi 4x will turn on for the initial setup.
Attention: On Xiaomi smartphones, unlike most other Android devices, the volume up button is used to enter the Recovery menu, not the decrease button. Many old-fashioned people press precisely on / off volume and fall into Fastboot mode with the “Xiaomi hare”, in which no reset naturally occurs.
We hope we could help you. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments.
