Optimize Windows 7 Disabling Unnecessary Services

Good afternoon.

The number of users of Windows 10 is growing day by day. And far from always, Windows 10 runs faster than Windows 7 or 8. This, of course, can be for a variety of reasons, but in this article I want to dwell on the settings and parameters of Windows 10, which can somewhat increase the speed of this OS.

By the way, everyone understands optimization as having a different meaning. In this article, I will provide recommendations that will help optimize Windows 10 to maximize its speed. And so, let’s begin.

1. Disabling unnecessary services

Almost always, Windows optimization starts with services. There are a lot of services in Windows and each of them is responsible for its “front” of work. The main point here is that developers do not know what services a particular user will need, which means that services that you basically don’t need will work in your compartment (well, for example, why a printer service if do you have one?).

To enter the service management section, right-click on the START menu and select the “Computer Management” link (as in Figure 1).

Further, to see the list of services, simply open the tab of the same name in the menu on the left (see Fig. 2).

Now, in fact, the main question: what to disconnect? In general, I recommend that before you work with services. make a backup of the system (so that in case of something, restore everything as it was).

What services do I recommend to disable (i.e. those that can have the most severe effect on the speed of the OS):

  • Windows Search. I always disable this service, because I don’t use search (and the search is “rather” clumsy). Meanwhile, this service, especially on some computers, heavily loads the hard drive, which seriously affects performance;
  • Windows Update. I also always turn it off. An update in itself is good. But I believe that it’s better to manually update the system at the right time yourself than it will load the system on its own (and even install these updates, spending time when rebooting the PC);
  • Pay attention to the services that appear when installing various applications. Disable those that you rarely use.

In general, a complete list of services that can be disabled (relatively painlessly) can be found here: https://pcpro100.info/optimizatsiya-windows-8/#1

2. Updating drivers

The second problem that occurs when installing Windows 10 (well, or when upgrading to 10) is the search for new drivers. The drivers that you worked on in Windows 7 and 8 may not work correctly in the new OS, or, most often, the OS disables some of them and installs its own universal ones.

Because of this, part of the capabilities of your equipment may become unavailable (for example, the multimedia keys on the mouse or keyboard may stop working, monitor brightness on the laptop, etc. may stop adjusting.).

In general, updating drivers is a pretty big topic (especially in some cases). I recommend checking your drivers (especially if Windows is unstable, it slows down). The link is a bit lower.

3. Removing junk files, cleaning the registry

A large number of junk files can affect computer performance (especially if you have not cleaned the system from them for a long time). Despite the fact that Windows has its own garbage cleaner. I almost never use it, preferring third-party software. Firstly, its quality of “cleaning” is very doubtful, and secondly, the speed of work (in some cases especially) leaves much to be desired.

A little higher, I cited a link to my article a year ago (it lists about 10 programs for cleaning and optimizing Windows). In my opinion, one of the best among them is this is CCleaner

Ccleaner

Free program to clean your PC from all kinds of temporary files. In addition, the program will help to eliminate registry errors, delete history and cache in all popular browsers, remove software, etc. By the way, the utility supports and works well in Windows 10.

4. Editing startup of Windows 10

Probably, many noticed one pattern: install Windows. it works quite quickly. Then time passes, you install a dozen or two programs. Windows starts to slow down, loading becomes longer by an order of magnitude.

The thing is that part of the installed programs is added to the startup of the OS (and starts with it). If there are a lot of programs in startup, the download speed can drop very significantly.

How to check autoload in Windows 10?

You need to open the task manager (simultaneously press the CtrlShiftEsc buttons). Next, open the startup tab. In the list of programs, turn off the ones that you do not need each time the PC turns on (see Fig. 5).

By the way, sometimes the task manager does not display all programs from startup (I don’t know what this is connected with.). To see everything that is hidden, install the AIDA 64 utility (or a similar one).

AIDA 64

Cool utility! Supports Russian language. Allows you to find out almost any information about your Windows and about the PC as a whole (about any of its hardware). For example, I quite often have to use it when setting up and optimizing Windows.

By the way, to view the autoload. you need to go into the “Programs” section and select the tab of the same name (as in Fig. 6).

5. Performance settings

Windows itself already has ready-made settings, when turned on, it will be able to work somewhat faster. This is achieved due to various effects, fonts, operating parameters of some OS components, etc.

To enable “best performance”, right-click on the START menu and select the “System” tab (as in Fig. 7).

Then, in the left column, open the “Advanced system settings” link, open the “Advanced” tab in the window that opens, and then open the performance parameters (see Fig. 8).

In the performance settings, you need to open the tab “Visual effects” and select the mode “Ensure the best performance.”

PS

For those who are slowed down by games, I recommend that you read the articles on fine-tuning video cards: AMD, NVidia. In addition, there are certain programs that can configure parameters (hidden from the eyes) to maximize performance: https://pcpro100.info/dlya-uskoreniya-kompyutera-windows/#3_Windows

That’s all for today. Successful and fast OS &# 128578;
