In this review of the Huawei MediaPad T3 10, we’ll tell you how good Huawei’s 9.6-inch Android tablet is. We will also see if it serves as an alternative to Amazon Fire HD 10.
Huawei MediaPad T3 10 is one of the latest tablets of the budget series Huawei. Its main features are Android 7.0 Nougat, optional LTE and a 9.6-inch display. Somewhat less than the usual offer of competitors. How good is a Huawei tablet, costing about 10,000 rubles, compared to competitors? The answer to this question is in our review of the Huawei MediaPad T3 10.
Update: Huawei has proposed the successor to the T3 10. Here is our review of the Huawei MediaPad T5 10.
| HUAWEI MEDIAPAD T3 10: DESIGN
The design of the MediaPad T3 10 is very similar to the latest Huawei tablets. It looks extremely similar to the more expensive MediaPad M3 Lite 10. But our tablet is slightly smaller. And until we get an all-metal case, the back panel is still made of aluminum. On the sides and top you will see a plastic frame.
Of course, this is not the thinnest tablet (7.95 mm), but the tongue does not even turn it thick. Weighing 460 grams, it is pretty good. Due to the metal back panel, the MediaPad T3 10 seems to be a better class than it is, and the rounded edges continue to form this impression, thanks to which the tablet is very convenient to hold. Frankly, in his hands he lies much better than the Lenovo Tab 4 8 or Amazon Fire HD 10, which are direct competitors.
| SPEAKERS, PORTS AND CAMERAS
At the bottom of the tablet is one speaker. Given the price of the tablet, the sound is not bad at all. But since it is only one, the speaker is easy to cover when you use the tablet on a sofa or bed.
On the sides you will find a microSD card slot and a microUSB port. Yes, Huawei continues to avoid USB Type-C ports. There is no HDMI output on the tablet, nor is there a fingerprint scanner. But frankly, competing tablets also do not offer these options in the T3 10 price segment.
The front camera of the tablet is limited to a resolution of 2 megapixels, a 5 megapixel camera is installed on the rear panel. Neither one offers high quality images. But cameras are enough for you to make video calls. We have seen cameras much worse.
| HUAWEI MEDIAPAD T3 10: SCREEN
Despite the fact that the tablet is called Huawei MediaPad T3 10, its diagonal is only 9.6 inches. So the panel is slightly smaller than those used by competitors. This makes the tablet a little more convenient. Within 10,000 rubles, we are often limited by HD-resolution, as in this case. Resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels.
Almost all smartphones have a higher pixel density than MediaPad T3 10. Compared to tablets with higher resolution, the labels and text may look fuzzy. for example, reading electronic books. However, we did not mind permission to watch the video. As we said, most competitors offer HD panels in this price category. However, there is one exception. The new Amazon Fire HD 10 costs about the same, but with a Full HD panel.
Other aspects of this IPS panel are pretty good. It is bright enough, offers good contrast and the colors on the screen look beautiful. The touch screen responds quickly and smoothly.
| CHARACTERISTICS AND PERFORMANCE
Inside the tablet is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, a 4-core processor, each core of which runs at a clock frequency of 1.4 GHz. Other features include 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. The system occupies 7.5 GB of the available. In some markets, Huawei offers a version of 32 GB of internal and 3 GB of RAM.
Video: Huawei Mediapad T3 10 Update
The Snapdragon 425 is certainly not the fastest processor. But its performance is sufficient for most tasks. These include browsing the web in Chrome, watching YouTube or Amazon Prime Video, and working with Microsoft Word. However, you may notice some slowdown when you quickly switch between applications or open a lot of materials in the background.
As you would expect at this price, the MediaPad T3 10 is not a gaming tablet. But we were able to play some games without experiencing performance issues. Games like Asphalt Xtreme, Rayman Adventures, or Dead Trigger 2 work pretty well. The same cannot be said for Modern Combat 5, where performance drops noticeably during active operations.
In tests, the tablet shows very similar results with the Lenovo Tab 4 8 and Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0, which offer almost the same equipment. In the Geekbench 4, the MediaPad T3 10 scores 680 and 1,900 points. In AnTuTu, the result was 37,700. By the way, the new Amazon Fire HD 10 and Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 are noticeably faster.
| ANDROID 7.0 AND EMUI 5.1
At the time of the release of MediaPad T3 10, there were no Android Oreo tablets yet. Huawei offers Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.1. This is Huawei’s own interface. If you have ever used a smartphone or tablet from a manufacturer in recent years, you will feel right at home. The interface is identical to what was on the latest Huawei phones and tablets.
The user interface of Emotion noticeably revises the design of the system. There are many pre-installed applications. I would like Huawei to offer a lite version of its interface. The positive side is that you can significantly change the design yourself. For example, by default, the tablet does not offer an application tray. But you can enable it in the settings.
We prefer vanilla Android, but we can live with EMUI. If you buy this tablet, we would recommend spending some time setting up and disconnecting / removing preinstalled apps. The Huawei interface offers many settings, some of which you may like, others you will ignore.
In addition, normal Android runs under the interface with all the functions we are used to. They include screen sharing. With this function, you can open two applications side by side. This feature works well on a survey tablet.
| OFFLINE TIME
The battery life of the Huawei MediaPad T3 10 could be better. To test the battery, we run a looped HD video until the tablet turns off. The brightness is set to 50 percent, Wi-Fi is on. In this test, the MediaPad T3 10 worked for 9 hours and 20 minutes.
Yes, this is a budget tablet. But competitors at similar prices, such as the Lenovo Tab 4 8 and Amazon Fire HD 10, offer the best battery life in our tests.
During the practical use of the tablet, the battery was not surprising, but it worked fine. Which, of course, is pleasant: the tablet practically does not consume energy in standby mode. We made up a kind of energy consumption diary and got a total time of 37 hours. In these 37 hours, we actively used the tablet for 6 hours and 10 minutes. During this time, we watched YouTube, played several games. Brightness ranged from 50 to 100 percent, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth were active.
| HUAWEI MEDIAPAD T3 10 REVIEW: SUMMING UP
So, can we recommend the Huawei MediaPad T3 10? Well, it all depends on your needs. This is a solid tablet with good build quality and decent performance. Overall, we really enjoyed spending time with him. He is especially good at watching videos. One of the drawbacks is the HD panel, but, as we have already said, most competitors do not offer higher resolutions. With one exception.
If you find Amazon Fire HD 10 on sale, we believe that it will be the best alternative. And while you have to live with Amazon’s severe limitations, the tablet costs the same, offers better performance, a higher resolution display and longer battery life.
Among other things, MediaPad T3 10, of course, is a solid tablet. Given the price, it does not have any serious flaws. On the other hand, the tablet is not very interesting and does not differ from competitors, including the Lenovo Tab 4 series. Of course, the tablet becomes more interesting when there are discounts.
Huawei MediaPad T3 10 is a very decent tablet. It offers decent build quality, good performance and not the oldest Android 7.0 Nougat. The battery life is a bit clouding, and the 9.6-inch display needs a higher resolution.
