Samsung Galaxy S9 has 11 useful features in settings that may come in handy
Android phones often have more interesting and useful features than iPhone, and the developers of the South Korean corporation Samsung all the time add new features to their flagships that adapt their devices to a whole new level. An article about this has been published on the “business insider” portal.
The thing is that Samsung rarely mentions these features when it officially presents its new devices, and they may go unnoticed by users.
Many of the features that will be described today in this publication are not exclusive to the new Samsung Galaxy S9, and most of them are in the previous lines, however, so that the user does not miss them, they will all be presented below.
So, 11 useful features on your Galaxy S9.
- Adjust the screen for even greater contrast.
Initially, by default, the Galaxy S9 is set to 1080 pixels from the factory. This is surprising because the display resolution can be increased to 1440 pixels. The user can set the smartphone to maximum by going to “Settings”> “Screen”> “Screen Resolution” and then setting it from FHD to WQHD
Setting the screen to a higher resolution means that in standalone mode the phone will work less time, however, a person will be able to appreciate the difference. It is certainly not very significant, but still it is, and the experience of using a smartphone will be more complete, since Samsung devices are the best for business.
- Decrease screen brightness in the dark.
Many phones have this feature, and for example, Apple calls it Night Shift. Samsung called it a blue filter. It mainly reduces the intensity of bright blue colors, which can interfere with the brain’s ability to sleep when a person tries to go to bed in the evening. You need to enter Settings > Display> Blue light filter>, and then turn on the schedule. You can set it by default for sunset, for sunrise, or configure the function to run at your own discretion.
- Put more apps on your home screen.
By default, on the main screen of the Galaxy S9, all applications are located far enough from each other, and this does not allow you to control everything at once, which is very inconvenient. To do this, go to Settings> Display> Main screen> Grid Home screen. This combination will help to customize the screen so that a person sees more applications that he uses most often.
- Screen settings for the Galaxy S9 so that the apps below don’t get clipped.
Not all applications are optimized to use a large display, like the Galaxy S9 (18: 9). Many of them are still optimized for the standard 16: 9 aspect ratio, which was used in most smartphones until 2016, so some applications cut off the bottom a bit because of this.
However, this is not a problem for Samsung, and by making a few changes, the problem will be fixed. Go to Settings> Display> The full screen of the application, which lists a long list of applications that are already optimized for a higher aspect ratio. 18: 9. Scrolling down it will appear applications that are not adapted. Some of them can be turned on if the full-mode screen is turned on when the application is opened for the first time, and some not if you missed this option.

In addition, you can simply click on the lower area of the screen when the smartphone asks if the application needs to fill the entire screen the next time it is opened.
- Extend the control panel from anywhere on the screen.
To drag the notification bar, you should use the top of the screen, which is available to users of the Galaxy S9 Plus. Images can be scrolled from anywhere on the Galaxy S9 screen to pull the notification bar even from the bottom of the display. You should go to “Settings”> “Screen”> “Main screen”> “Quick Notification Panel”, then enable the setting.
- Change the vibration pattern for notifications, including phone calls.
The main default vibration pattern when receiving a notification is continuous vibration. However, the function provides the ability to change to a more convenient one, and some patterns create different vibrational noises. Going to Settings> Sounds and Vibration> Vibration, you can view all vibration patterns before choosing what you like for installation on notifications and phone calls.
- Decrease in intensity of vibration.
On Samsung phones, vibration is especially intense when receiving notifications. Sometimes it can be extremely loud if the phone is on a hard surface, even if the case is not thin.
Fortunately, and this can be changed if you go to Settings »> Sounds and Vibration> “Vibration strength”, where you can reduce the vibration intensity for phone calls, notifications, and even short presses.
- Features that enhance the sound quality of music.
Galaxy S9 has many features and settings that can come in handy when listening to tunes, such as Dolby Atmos, which allows music to sound as if it is being played directly in the room in which you are. Or the Tube Amp Pro option, which gives the bass a richer sound, for example, with a classic tube amplifier. There is still a UHQ-upscaler for improving the quality of music, but it only works for wired headphones. All these changes are available if you go to Settings> Sounds and vibrations> Sound quality and effects.
- A function that allows you to not turn off the screen while you look at it without touching the display.
This feature is present on some other Samsung devices, and it is called Smart Stay. This is possible thanks to the front camera, which captures whether a person is looking directly at the screen. If yes, then the smartphone will keep the phone’s display turned on, and you don’t have to press the screen all the time to light up again.
This function is especially convenient if a person is reading a long publication, or if it is just necessary that the phone does not go out when the user looks at something longer than the default 30-second screen timeout. To activate it, go to Settings> Advanced features> Smart stay, and enable the function.
- Customizing the appearance of the Google search bar on the main screen, for a more harmonious combination with the selected background.
The Google search bar on the main screen of the Galaxy S9 is white by default, however, the user can change it to a different color, square shape, or even make it more transparent. To do this, in the Google search bar, touch the three dots on the right> Tune>.
- Turn on the screen saver when charging the phone.
The Galaxy S9 screen is black by default while charging, but you can add a personalized setting such as a screen saver that will be displayed on the screen while charging. To do this, open the “Settings”> “Screen”> “Screen saver”>, and then select your favorite screensaver. There is even a function for viewing how this or that screensaver will look.
