How to reassign Bixby key to Samsung Galaxy S10, S10e, S9, Note 9, etc.
You either use Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant, or not. If this is the latter, you might be wondering what to do with the dedicated Bixby key on side phones such as the Galaxy S10, S9 and S8 that cannot be turned off. Well, Samsung has put forward an update that allows anyone to reassign a button to open another application on the phone.
Button remapping should work on any of the following phones:
- Samsung Galaxy S8
- Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8
- Samsung Galaxy S9
- Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy Note 9
- Samsung Galaxy S10
- Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy S10e
Go to the Galaxy Store app, which can be found in the App Drawer, and tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner. Go to my page and click “Refresh”. If you have no way to reassign the Bixby button, there should be an update pending download here.
Bixby key remapping
Bixby’s key will always open Bixby in one way or another. The update simply gives you the ability to launch another application with one click (then double-clicking will open Bixby) or double-clicking (when a single click will open Bixby). Pressing and holding the button also starts the walkie-talkie mode for Bixby. Unfortunately, there is no way to use the button to open the Google Assistant, but we will return to this in a second.
After the update, go to “Settings”> “Additional functions”> “The Bixby Key.” We recommend that you select Double-click to open Bixby, which means that you just need to press the button once to start another application. Click on “Use with one click,” and then click on the gear icon next to “Open Application.” Find the application you want to run. it could even be a camera. and select it. This is it! You have successfully reassigned the Bixby button.

You will also see the option to quickly launch a command when you click on the Bixby button. Quick commands allow you to run a series of actions on your phone when you pronounce a phrase. For example, saying “I’m driving,” you can turn off Wi-Fi on your phone, turn on Bluetooth, and start playing the “Switch” playlist, if you have one. Attaching a quick command to a Bixby key means you don’t need to say it out loud, and instead you can just press a button. Given that there is a chance of accidentally pressing the Bixby key, you can use double-tap instead.
Re-matching the Bixby key to open the Google Assistant
If you often use the Google Assistant, you can launch it using a special button instead of clicking the Home button. There is a way to do this, but this requires a third-party application (which can always be a security concern). The app and instructions are from XDA developers.
First we recommend going to Settings> “Biometrics and Security”> “Install unknown applications” and click “Chrome” or “Internet in Samsung”. whichever browser you use by default. Enable Allow from this source. You can change this later, but this is what allows the browser to download unidentified files, which is necessary if you want to run Google Assistant with the Bixby key.
Now follow this link and download the XDA’s Bixby Remapper APK APK. We tried this on several phones, and the process worked smoothly. Follow the instructions to download the application and then install it.
After installation, return to Settings> Advanced features> Bixby key. Click “Use one click,” and then click on the gear icon next to “Open Application.” Now look for an app called Bixby Button Assistant Remapper. This is it.
Press the Bixby button, and you will get the opportunity to open Google Assistant or Bixby (or it will automatically launch Google Assistant). click Google Assistant, and then click Always to make sure that Google will always open A.I.
Now you can use the Bixby key to launch the Google Assistant.
