How to Disable Accessibility On Phone

How to Disable Accessibility On Phone

Sometimes novice users of the Android operating system, out of curiosity, decide to try out what the talkback function is or activate it completely by accident. As a result of unusual changes in the use of a smartphone or tablet, returning the previous functionality is often extremely problematic. Breeders, as a rule, do not attach a detailed description of this feature, leaving everything to be intuitively mastered by the owner of the technical device.

In order not to lose several hours or even days on a fruitless struggle with your device, first familiarize yourself with the features of talkback. Knowing its location and settings details for your Android model, you can easily return the usual settings.

Why is this feature needed?

Talkback is designed as a special feature for people with visual impairment or lack thereof. It slightly facilitates the work with the phone and voices almost all the actions of the owner. This function is convenient for those who previously worked only with computers, because the control becomes like clicking a mouse.

Keys that are pressed with one touch and typing using the keyboard are voiced. The program also notifies you of incoming calls, and with shaking it can begin to read out all the information that the screen displays.

If you hold your finger on one of the letters for a few seconds, then talkback will first pronounce the letter itself, and then the word that begins with it. This option helps to better hear certain sounds by ear for error-free typing. Among other devices, talkback is useful for audio tips that provide supporting information on certain phone objects. It is also possible to execute commands with gestures and the synthesis of human speech into text.

How management has changed

Like standard clicks of a computer mouse, first of all, the user needs to select the desired object on the monitor. with one touch. Interaction with him begins with a double quick click.

To scroll the menu list, browser page up or down, and also scroll the menu left or right, you will need to pull the screen in the right direction by touching it with two fingers. The screen will not respond to a single touch!

The unlocking of the screen also occurs according to this principle: press the pads of two fingers to the base of the screen and, without releasing, gently pull up. You may need to enter a password to unlock. A similar method is a double click on the unlock button at the bottom of the screen, in the center. In this case, sometimes you need to follow voice instructions.

Shutdown Procedure

Below is the most common algorithm suitable for most device versions:

  1. Double-click to go to the main menu;
  2. Find the settings icon and activate it with a double click;
  3. Scroll the list (holding the screen with two fingers) to the "System" section;
  4. Open "Accessibility" by double-clicking and find the "Services" section;
  5. Open the talkback subsection, there you will see a brief description and the on / off button (it is located in the upper right corner of the screen);
  6. Double-click to switch the position of the toggle switch to the off mark to disable the function;
  7. In the appeared window “Stop talkback service?” press the ok button by quickly tapping it twice.

One touch off

If you didn’t have talkback turned on / off by default, you can do this in one action in the following ways:

  1. Press the power button without removing your finger until a characteristic audible alert sounds or you feel a vibration. After that, press two fingers to the screen, holding for about 4-5 seconds. A beep will tell you when the talkback trip has worked.
  2. Hold and hold both fingers from the two buttons for changing the volume of the phone (which are usually located on the edge of the device) until you hear a beep.

Now you can both disable the unwanted function and enable it in the same instantaneous manner at any time convenient for you.

What to do if you have a different model

Different versions of Android have different types of menus, which is why the way to turn off this service may vary. If your version is Android 4.0 or earlier, then you will need to install the special Accessibility Preferences application. Only after that will the standard path and the TalkBack Preferences menu be available. It is he who will allow you to disable this special ability.

For devices manufactured by Samsung on Android with a user interface called TouchWiz, there is a slightly different menu sequence. Firstly, you need to look into the settings and find “My device” there. Already from there, following the standard scheme, go into special features, where you can turn off the "Talkback". This path is located in Android 4.3 and later.

Google TalkBack is an assistive app for people with visual impairments. It is preinstalled by default in any smartphones running the Android operating system and, unlike alternative options, interacts with all elements of the device’s shell.

Disable TalkBack on Android

If you accidentally activated the application using the function buttons or in the accessibility menu of the gadget, it is quite easy to disable it. Well, those who are not going to use the program at all can completely deactivate it.

Note! Moving inside the system with the voice assistant turned on requires a double click on the selected button. Scrolling through the menu is done with two fingers at once.

In addition, depending on the model of the device and version of Android, the actions may differ slightly from those discussed in the article. However, in general, the principle of search, settings and how to turn off voice guidance on Android should always be the same.

Method 1: Quick Shutdown

After you activate TalkBack, you can quickly turn it on and off using the physical buttons. This option is convenient for instant switching between smartphone modes. Regardless of your device model, this happens as follows:

  1. Unlock the device and simultaneously hold down both volume buttons for about 5 seconds, until you feel a slight vibration. In older devices (Android 4), hereinafter, the power button can replace them, so if the first option did not work, try to hold down the button "On off" on the case. After vibration and until the window with the completion of work appears, attach two fingers to the screen and wait for repeated vibration.
  2. The voice assistant will inform you that the feature has been disabled. The corresponding inscription will appear at the bottom of the screen.

This option will work only if you previously assigned TalkBack activation to the buttons as a quick service activation. Check and configure this, provided that you plan to reuse the service from time to time, as follows:

  1. Go to "Settings" >"Specialist. opportunities".
  2. Select item "Volume buttons".
  3. If the regulator is on "Turned off", activate it. You can also use the item “Allow on locked screen”, so that to enable / disable the assistant did not need to unlock the screen.
  4. Go to “Quick service activation”.
  5. Assign TalkBack to it.
  6. A list of all tasks for which this service will be responsible appears. Press on "OK", exit the settings and you can check whether the installed activation parameter works.

Method 2: Disable through Settings

Having difficulty deactivating using the first option (a malfunctioning volume button, an unadjusted quick shutdown), you need to visit the settings and disable the application directly. Depending on the model of the device and the shell, the menu items may vary, but the principle will be similar. Use names or use the search box at the top "Settings", if you have one.

  1. Open "Settings" and find the item "Specialist. opportunities".
  2. In chapter Screen readers (it may not exist or it is called differently) click on TalkBack.
  3. Press the button in the form of a switch to change the status from "On" on the Disabled.

Disabling TalkBack

You can also stop the application as a service, in this case, although it remains on the device, it will not start and lose some of the settings assigned by the user.

  1. Open "Settings", then “Applications and notifications” (or simply "Applications")
  2. In Android 7 and above, expand the list with the button "Show all applications". On previous versions of this OS, switch to the tab "All".
  3. Find TalkBack and press the button Disable.
  4. A warning appears that you must agree to by clicking on “Turn off the application”.
  5. Another window will open where you will see a message about restoring the version to the original one. Existing updates on top of what was installed during the release of the smartphone will be deleted. Tap on "OK".

Now if you go to "Specialist. opportunities", you won’t see the application there as a connected service. It will disappear from the settings "Volume buttons", if they were assigned to TalkBack (more on this is described in Method 1).

To enable, follow steps 1-2 from the instructions above and click on the button Enable. To return additional features to the application, just visit the Google Play Store and install the latest TalkBack updates.

Method 3: Complete removal (root)

This option is only suitable for users who have root-rights on a smartphone. By default, TalkBack can only be disabled, but superuser rights remove this limitation. If this application didn’t please you something and you want to get rid of it completely, use the software to remove system programs on Android.

After the children play on the phone, strangely enough, it is difficult to use it later. Include many different miracle features. To such "miracle functions" I would include the built-in talkback program on android. Of course, like any Android system, it’s also not without its “jokes.”

I did not plan to write about disabling voice guidance. But google, found the instructions written by the developers and was horrified. Well, of course, this is a no brainer to turn off any application, go to settings, then applications, select talkback in accordance and turn it off. But not so simple. When talkback is on, using the phone is almost impossible, so that you need to double-click on it, you can’t scroll as before.

So, to turn off talkback. voice prompts, you need to hold down all the buttons at the same time, in my case it is the power and sound buttons, then in the dialog box, confirm the talkback is turned off (double click).

or do as recommended in google &# 128578; go settings-accessibility-talkback and turn it off

What is the talkback application for?

The talkback application is intended for users who have vision problems, or people who generally do not gu-gu. As stated by the developers, a very useful thing helps to understand the phone. As for me, to deal with the phone is a meaningless thing. Although other features may be useful.

At the moment, I did not find any benefit from these functions, possibly over time.
