When you first meet with Apple’s wireless headphones, sometimes difficulties arise: it is not clear how to adjust the volume on AirPods, because the remote control is removed. Yes, and no external controls can be found. Do not panic ahead of time, the sound can be adjusted, and in several ways. But first, let’s deal with the connection of Apple Air Subs.
Auto Playback: Setting
Initial setup is fully automatic:
- Take the case with AirPods, open the lid and remove the headphones.
- Bring your iPhone to the headphones.
- When a prompt appears on your smartphone, click on the connect button.
- After establishing a connection (a couple of moments), the Apple Air Pod headphones are fully ready for use.
By default, the automatic mode of operation is set. Headphones using the built-in sensor track whether they are inserted into the ear. if so, sounds begin to play through them. To pause playback, you need to remove one earphone, and if you get both, then the playback will be stopped. But to control the volume of AirPods such automation is not provided.
Volume Control Methods on AirPods
So, you inserted the headphones, started the playback and asked the natural question: how to adjust the volume on the wireless AirPods, if they do not have a remote? In EarPods, it was on the cord and allowed you to adjust the sound as well as change tracks or answer calls.
In Apple AirPods with default settings, all of these actions, including increasing the volume, were put at the disposal of Siri’s voice assistant. Yes, yes, now to control the headphones you need to talk to them. Siri does an excellent job of recognizing common phrases, so you don’t need to remember commands or train a headset. You can simply say "Siri, the volume to the maximum." You can also adjust the volume on AirPods as a percentage, then it doesn’t matter if you want to decrease or increase, just name the desired value.
However, this method has a couple of disadvantages. First, before you increase the volume on AirPods, you need to activate the voice assistant. This is done by double tapping on the side of the earpiece.
If you touch too lightly, the system may not recognize the command, but it is not necessary to knock too hard. Secondly, before turning up the volume on AirPods, the system pauses the sound.
But the advantages are much greater. The voice assistant in the headphones can perform not only the simplest actions, such as decrease or increase the volume, but also serves as a full continuation of iOS. Accordingly, you can ask Siri to perform any actions available to her. to lay a route and, like a navigator, navigate through it, find out the weather forecast, make an appointment, make a call to the desired number, etc. To see the remaining charge in the headphone batteries, just ask Siri.
And the voice assistant can serve as a secretary and notify the owner of incoming calls. In this case, you can answer the call without removing the headphones from your ears. To do this, during the call, do a double tap, as if you had to call Siri. The system recognizes this as a call acceptance command.
Please note that for the full functioning of Siri, permission to work in the locked screen mode is required. You can configure the corresponding parameter in the "Siri and Search" subsection in the standard system settings of the smartphone. If it is disabled, then you will not be able to call Siri and perform through any actions, as well as turn down or increase the volume.
For convenience, you can tell the system through which earpiece you want to read the voice. By default, automatic selection of the more suitable one is used, since microphones are available in both. However, if you want to turn on, for example, only the left one, then this can be done through the device to which the headphones are connected. To do this, go to the AirPods settings in the Bluetooth connection section (it is in the settings). Next, switch the microphone to the desired mode.
If you have an electronic clock from Apple, then you can adjust the sound on AirPods directly from them. it’s almost as simple as using the remote control on wired headphones. And for this you do not need to get a smartphone or tablet. After all, AirPods automatically switch between watches and other devices, correctly identifying the sound source. And you can start playback on the Apple Watch. In this mode, you should change the volume on AirPods using the Digital Crown side wheel. turning in one direction will add sound, in the other it will decrease.
This way to change the volume is convenient because you do not need to remember the current level or communicate with Siri.
Using the Control Center
Finally, a system component called “Control Point” can be used to adjust the sound. It is started by swiping from the bottom edge up (to the 12th iOS) or from the upper right edge of the display down (in iOS 12). Then, with effort, click on the playback area.
A more detailed view opens, in which you can control the tracks and adjust the sound. In addition, this method allows you to quickly switch from headphones to another playback device.
