How to disable notifications from the firewall

It provides reliable protection against hackers or malicious software that is trying to access your PC via a network connection. Whenever an incoming connection is attempted, the Windows Firewall displays a notification in which you can deny or allow access.

Is it possible and worth it to disable the firewall

A firewall is just as important to your security as an antivirus program. Firewalls block malware and protect against hackers trying to penetrate your system / network. Thus, disabling the firewall can lead to the fact that your system and all data will become more vulnerable to attackers, which will allow viruses to infect not only your computer, but also all devices connected with it. The most dangerous thing is that all malicious operations can be performed remotely from your computer using a normal network connection.

Firewall work

There are two main types of firewalls: software firewalls and hardware firewalls. The first is installed on a separate computer, and the second acts as a bridge between the local network and the global network, protecting all devices connected to the local network. Equipment firewalls can be standalone devices or can be integrated into a router. Hardware-based firewalls block ports and restrict incoming traffic, while software-based firewalls provide more thorough protection.

The consequences of disabling the firewall

Disabling the firewall allows all data packets to enter and exit the network indefinitely. This includes not only ordinary Internet traffic, but also malicious data, thereby compromising the network. If the software firewall is disabled, malware can spread over the network connection, infecting all PCs connected to the local network. Disabling the hardware firewall also affects all devices that connect to the network.

Alternative option

Because firewalls control inbound and outbound connections, problems may arise when trying to use certain applications or services that require Internet access. So that these programs can work freely on the Internet, you can open the corresponding ports in the firewall without disabling it. Some programs use a predefined port or port range, while others allow users to manually configure the ports used by the software. Opening a firewall can entail the penetration of potentially harmful traffic through the appropriate port, but when configured individually, non-standard ports can be used to reduce the risk of attack.

Optimal option

Sometimes, to perform certain tasks. for example, when updating a software or installing new programs. you need to disable the software firewall. It is advisable to disconnect the computer from the Internet before disconnecting the firewall to eliminate the risk of attack. Depending on the program, you can plan to re-enable the firewall after a certain amount of time or after restarting the system.

How and where to completely disable the firewall

To disable the firewall:

From the Start menu, select “Control Panel”> “Windows Firewall.”

Disable Windows 10 Firewall Notifications

On the left side you will see the “Enable or disable Windows Firewall” link, click on it to open the settings panel shown in the above image. Here you will see the settings for enabling or disabling the firewall in both private and public networks.

You have two settings:

  • Enable Windows Firewall
  • Disable Windows Firewall (not recommended)

In the first case, you will see two options:

  • Block all incoming connections, including from the list of allowed applications;
  • Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new application.

Select one of the options, click “OK” and close the window.

In most cases, the default firewall settings are the most reliable option for protecting the system, but if you need to configure it according to your requirements, you can change them in the above way.

How to disable the firewall through the registry

In addition to all the described methods, the Windows firewall can also be disabled using the registry (Regedit)

Regedit Features

There are several cases where disabling the firewall through the registry remains the only right option. For example, if:

  • one of the computer users has disabled standard user access to the firewall interface;
  • the firewall was interrupted by the unexpected failure of a third-party antivirus program;
  • the system firewall conflicts with Windows Defender.

In this case, the firewall can be quickly and easily disabled using regedit.

Disabling Windows Firewall Using the Registry

To disable Windows Firewall in the registry editor, go to the Start menu> Run and enter regedit in the input field.

Then go to the section:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services SharedAccess Parameters FirewallPolicy StandardProfile

Change the value of Reg_DWORD EnableFirewall from 0 to 1 to disable the firewall.

You can also enter the registry using the command line:

Start. Utilities. Command Prompt

In the window that appears, enter the command “regedit”

Please note that registry access is dependent on user privileges. All the above actions should be performed provided that the login is performed on behalf of the administrator.
